Why Reading the Bible Changed My Life (and Led Me to Jesus)
When I opened my Bible with a hungry heart, I had no idea how much it would transform my life. Through the Holy Spirit’s work, reading Scripture became the turning point where I found truth, clarity, and lasting peace.
The Bible didn’t just give me advice—it led me to a Person.
Jesus.
The Word That Sets Us Free
“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32
God’s Word set me free from the lies of the enemy. Each verse became a weapon, refuting the deceit I had believed for too long. But I realized that truth isn’t just a concept…it’s a person.
“I am the way and the truth and the life.” John 14:6
The more I grew in the knowledge of God’s Word, the more I came to know Jesus Himself. The Living Word (John 1:1) was not just speaking to me—He was inviting me to walk with Him.
The Beginning of Wisdom
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7
Reverence for God is where wisdom begins. And when you read Scripture with a heart that longs to know the truth about God, you see that wisdom ultimately points to Christ:
“…in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Colossians 2:3
Every page of Scripture whispers His name. Jesus is not just a part of the Bible’s story, He is its center.
The Danger of Forgetting
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…” Hosea 4:6
That verse stunned me. The full context shows that destruction comes from rejecting knowledge and forgetting God’s law. But Jesus fulfilled the law perfectly—and He alone can restore what we’ve lost.
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets;
I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” Matthew 5:17
When we reject the Word, we reject the One who is the Word made flesh. But when we receive Him, we receive life.
Do You Want It?
“If you receive my words and treasure up my commandments…
if you call out for insight… then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.” —Proverbs 2:1–5 (paraphrased)
Wisdom doesn’t fall into your lap. You have to want it.
Let me say that again because it is so vitally important. Wisdom doesn’t fall into your lap. You have to want it.
But Jesus promised that when we seek, we will find (Matthew 7:7). If you long for understanding, peace, and direction, He is all of that and more.
Cry out for discernment. Lift your voice for understanding.
But more than anything seek to really know who Jesus is.
